Gram Panchayat Chakjafar Mafi is located in Pahadi block of Chitrakoot district of Uttar Pradesh. The distance of the Gram panchayat is 10 kms from the district head quarter. The panchayat has a population of around 4000 people. The Panchayat has one primary school in which 116 children are enrolled.

Community meetings in Uttar Pradesh
Prajayatna conducted 55 meetings with the Gram Panchayats and community at various levels in Chitrakoot and Bahraich districts during April-June quarter. 1771 people - including parents, teachers, panchayat members and department representatives - participated in these meetings. Issues like lack / poor condition of physical infrastructure, enrollment and retention of children in schools were raised and discussed in these meetings.

Hidayat makes Friends and Starts Learning
Hidayat Alam is an 8 year old child with hearing and speech impairment from birth. He can neither speak nor hear. He comes from Kohli village of Kohli Gram Panchayat of Kaiserganj Block of Bahraich. His father depends upon daily wage labor work for his livelihood and his mother is a housewife. He was enrolled in PS Kohli in November 2017 after intervention of Prajayatna. His parents were initially not interested in send him to school as they did not see any point in him going there due to his hearing disability. However, after a few meetings and insistence during which they were convinced that going to school will help him in making new friends and learn something as well, his parents agreed to send him to the school.

Teacher Collectives in Uttar Pradesh
Teacher collectives are meetings organized with the teachers of 75 selected government schools in the districts for Kalikayatna learning initiative. These collectives help in creating a space where teachers collaborate with each other for devising methods for innovative learning of their students. They develop ways to facilitate a concept better, address challenges that they face in their specific learning environments, review and adopt learning plans and generate feedback for improving the practices of the Kalikayatna approach.

Release of the Report on the status of Education in Chitrakoot
A district level workshop was organized in Chitrakoot on 20th of April in the conference hall of the DM office on the topic "Role of Community in Ensuring Quality Learning." The workshop was held in the chairmanship of the DM Sri Vishakh ji and provided a platform for the community, its representatives and officials of the education department to share their grievances and thoughts on how quality education can be ensured in government schools of the district and the role that the community can play in it.

Shobha didi, ECV, raises awareness and attempts to save school from merger
Lakdatona Tola of Kobja Panchayat is situated approximately 25 km from Raidih block of Gumla district in Jharkhand. The Panchayat has a total of 13 schools and anganwadis. It is these educational institutions where most of the children of the panchayat study. Almost all of these schools lack in some or the other basic facilities such as toilets and boundary walls. The teachers in many schools are not punctual in the schools and the community, which is poor and dependant on agriculture and daily wage labor work for its livelihood, is mostly unaware of its rights for education.

Education Change Vectors Training and Review Meetings, Gumla
A two-day long residential training was conducted on 9th and 10th of April for the Education Change Vectors. They were representatives from the Women's Self Help Groups who had taken responsibility to work on the issue of education on behalf of the women. This was their second round of training and it gave them a platform to share their experiences and challenges from the field, their hopes and aspirations, besides how they can build upon the work already done by them.

Seekho-Sikhao, Gumla
These are activity based, fun-filled programs conducted by the ECVs in their schools with the help of Prajayatna which aim at bringing the students, teachers, parents and community members together and helping them in interacting with each other besides giving the parents an opportunity to work with children on their study-related aspects. Seekho-Sikhao was organized in 17schools of the block with an overall participation of 1056 people which included students, teachers and parents.

Making sure all children are in school – Enrolment Campaigns, Shikaripara
Three enrollment campaigns were conducted in Shikaripada in Shivtalla, Digalpahadi and Langopahadi villages for raising the awareness about education. The enrollments saw a participation of 88 SHG didis, 5 teachers and 228 students.

Community Meetings, Gumla and Shikaripada
21 Village Organization (of the Self Help Groups) meetings have been held in Shikaripada. These meetings serve as a platform for Prajayatna for introducing itself to these organizations and build a relationship with the didis in order to start working with the SHGs and local communities for the betterment of schools.

New Premises for Two Anganwadis through Community Participation
40 children were crammed into Anganwadi centers 1 and 2 of Kasturibanagar, both functioning from a single hall of 12x12 feet which belonged to the Bengaluru Bruhut Mahanagara Palike. They did not have separate places and were serving all these children in the hall which was congested for these many children. Even the mid-day meals of both the anganwadis were cooked in two separate corners of the hall itself.

Parents meetings in anganwadis of Bengaluru
A total of 23 parents meetings have been conducted for children of 0-3 and 3-6 years age groups during the period of April to June.
Parents of children of 0-3 age group were told of methods of taking proper care of their children. They were also told of the importance of sufficient nutritious food and regular health check-ups for the pregnant and lactating mothers. Parents of 3-6 year group children were encouraged to become active participants of their child’s learning and development at home by using day to day simple objects as tools for the child’s learning. Parents were also encouraged to interact with children as much as they can as it was through interactions that children learn.

Anganwadi teachers training in Bengaluru
Teacher training workshop on teaching learning materials was conducted in Yelahanka and Mysore circles. The workshop was designed to enable teachers to understand the important role that various learning materials can play in the overall development of a child. The usage of materials was also linked to the weekly concepts that the teachers have to conduct in the classrooms.

Extension of Early Child Care and Education Program in Dharwad
The program has been extended to 6 circles (including two old circles) of Dharwad block in the April to June quarter. These circles cover 163 anganwadis center which serve around 4600 children.
